Academic Requirements for Instructor Program
The Information You Need
*Must hold a SC Cosmetology, Nail Technician, or Esthetics License.
*Have a high school diploma, GED, or proof of passing 10th grade (high school transcript.)
* Have a valid driver's license or photo ID and ACTUAL social security card.
Admissions Process

*Complete KNK Academy of Cosmetic Arts application and submit application fee ($100.00 non-refundable) below.
*Once approved, student will enroll into their desired program of study.
* Tuition is paid in full at the time of enrollment.

Refresher Courses
60-Hour Nail Technology Refresher Course
This 60 Hours Refresher Course is designed to meet the state requirement for nail technician whose license has expired for 5 years or more. This intensive 60-hour refresher course is a comprehensive course that has been tailored to suit the needs of someone wishing to renew their license. The course includes Manicure, Nail Tip and Blending, Sculptured Nail Application, Blood Exposure Procedures, Theory Knowledge, and SC State Board Exam Preparation.
DURATION: 3-6 WEEKS
COST: $675.00 includes registration fee (non-refundable)
ENTRY REQUIREMENT: Expired Licensee.

90-Hour Esthetics Refresher Course
This 90 Hours Refresher Course is designed to meet the state requirement for estheticians whose license has expired for 5 years or more. This intensive 90-hour refresher course is a comprehensive course that has been tailored to suit the needs of someone wishing to renew their license. The course includes Basic Facial, Hair Removal, Make-Up/Eyelash Application, Microdermabrasion, Blood Exposure Procedures, Theory Knowledge, and SC State Board Exam Preparation.
DURATION: 3-6 WEEKS
COST: $1,000.00 includes registration fee (non-refundable)
ENTRY REQUIREMENT: Expired Licensee.

150-Hour Instructor Refresher Course
This 150 Hours Refresher Course is designed to meet the state requirement for instructors whose license has expired for 5 years or more. This intensive 150-hour refresher course is a comprehensive course that has been tailored to suit the needs of someone wishing to renew their license. The course includes theory and practical SC State Board Exam Preparation.
DURATION: 6-10 WEEKS
COST: $1,515.00 includes registration fee (non-refundable)
ENTRY REQUIREMENT: Expired Licensee.

16-Hour State Board Preparation Training
This intensive 16 Hours Preparation Training is designed to prepare you for the State Board Exam for Cosmetologists, Nail Technicians, Estheticians, and Instructors who has to take their initial exams or whose license has expired for 3 years or more. The training includes Kit/Bag Packing and SC State Board Preparation for both theory and practical exams.
DURATION: 2-4 Sessions (Weekends Only)
COST: $485.00 includes registration fee (non-refundable)

Nail Technology Program
Nail Technology Program - Transform Your Passion into a Career
Our Nail Technology Program offers a comprehensive 300-clock hour educational course, equipping you with theory, practical skills, and clinical experience in all areas of nail technology.
Gain knowledge through theory lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. You'll be evaluated through scheduled testing and increment level exams, ensuring your progress and readiness.
Learn to recognize healthy nails, handle nail disorders, and follow strict sterilization and sanitation regulations. Master basic nail care, acrylic nail application, and creative nail art techniques.
Upon completion, you'll qualify for graduation and be eligible to apply for the state licensure exam, a requirement for Nail Technician employment.
Tuition: $3,250.00 Course Length: 22 Weeks

Esthetics Program
Esthetics Program - Unlock Your Potential in Skincare and Beauty
Our Esthetics Program offers a comprehensive 450-clock hour educational course, providing theory, practical skills, and clinical experience.
Immerse yourself in theory lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice to gain valuable knowledge and practical skills. Regular testing and increment level exams ensure your progress and mastery.
Learn to identify healthy skin, address common skin disorders, and adhere to strict sterilization and sanitation regulations. Develop expertise in essential skincare, facial massage, makeup application, and hair removal techniques.
Upon completion, you'll qualify for graduation and be eligible to apply for the state licensure exam, a requirement to work as an Esthetician.
Tuition: $5,325.00 Course Length: 30 Weeks

Instructor Program
Instructor Program - Empower Others Through Teaching
Our Instructor Program offers a comprehensive 750-clock hour course of study, combining theory instruction, lectures, demonstrations, practical experience, and student teaching under direct Instructor supervision.
Gain knowledge and skills through engaging lectures, practical applications, and the development of lesson plans.
Understand course outlines, curriculum, and subject materials to prepare effective lesson plans.
Develop the professional and personality disciplines necessary for successful class control, including planning, preparation, and effective teaching techniques. Conduct class lectures, presentations, supervise student salon services, provide counseling and motivation, maintain records, ensure sanitation and sterilization procedures, and perform administrative duties.
Your progress will be evaluated through scheduled theory and practical exams, as well as cumulative incremental level exams at each stage of the course. Upon completion, you'll receive an Affidavit of Completion to apply for testing and certification.
Tuition: $6,895.00 Course Length: 45.5 Weeks

FAQs
Does your institute accept financial aid/VA?
We are not able to accept federal funding until we are accredited which takes a minimum of two years.
Do we have to pay for the program upfront in full?
No. We have several different payment options and affordable plans available.
What will I learn?
Nail technology is the study of nails and requires 300 hours and Esthetics is the study of skin/makeup and requires 450 hours.
Do you offer day/night classes?
Yes, we offer all programs for our evening classes for both programs. Esthetics Day Classes starting August 21st, 2023.
Are we still able to receive our license even though you are not accredited?
Yes. Once the board approves a school to open, we are able to provide the program of study and you will be able to take your licensure exam upon completion.
Can I transfer my hours from another approved school?
Yes, but the amount of hours accepted can vary.
Kyea Sturkin
KNK Academy of Cosmetic Arts, Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
A native of Georgetown, South Carolina, Ms. Sturkin attended Georgetown County School District (Cosmetology) where she obtained her Cosmetology License. After graduation, she moved to Charlotte, NC where she attended Brands College of Beauty and earned her Cosmetology Instructor License and then Rowan-Cabarrus Community College where she earned her Associates Degrees in Cosmetology and Cosmetology Instructor. Ms. Sturkin returned to her hometown where she felt she could make a difference in the beauty industry and to fulfill her dreams of becoming a salon owner (KNK Hair Salon Ltd. Co.) and school owner (KNK Academy of Cosmetic Arts Ltd. Co.)
Before teaching in Georgetown, she was a cosmetology instructor in Charlotte and Myrtle Beach. Ms. Sturkin has operated her salon and teaches for the Georgetown County School District (Cosmetology) since 2009 until present.
After 20+ years in this industry, Ms. Sturkin still has the passion, love, and burning desire as when she first started but, it’s the ability to help others reach their career goals and become successful that puts the flame in her.

Haley Scharlau
Cosmetology Instructor
Hello, my name is Haley Scharlau, I am very excited to be joining you on this new adventure I will be one of your instructors that you will be working with over your nail technician learning career. I have been in the Cosmetology industry for six years and love what I do. I have a passion for all parts of the cosmetology industry especially the technical side. I am excited to be here every step of the way to help you reach success!
I am originally from Albion, NY. Obtained a certificate in cosmetology in 2016 at Georgetown High School. Specializing in hair cutting while living in Georgetown. I have worked at a local barbershop for the past three years on Front Street in downtown Georgetown. I am continually growing and adding to my career goals. Currently, I am also a student at HGTC with a focus on Human Services (substance abuse counseling).
I firmly believe you can do anything you put your mind to! I am very grateful and excited to be part of this very promising program with a solid team of instructors. I believe everything is possible, and I am here to help you in any way I can with your career needs.

Our students are now offering nail care and skin care services to the public. Services will start on January 18th, 2023 and will be offered every Tuesday and Wednesday evenings starting at 5:15pm.
